History

From year 2001 and under the leadership of Professor Poirrier, head of the sleep laboratory at the University Hospital (CHU) of Liège, the university of Liège and its industrial partners, initially the company Schréder and subsequently the company LUCIMED, undertook the development of the original light therapy device. Under the name of Eclat (Emission Ciblée de Lumière Ana Thymique), this research program was financed by two banks in the Walloon region, with the intention of ensuring the connection between «research-enterprise».

Without the intervention by researchers in the laboratory Hololab  at the department of physics at the university of Liège, the luminette would never have seen the light of day. Professor Yvon Renotte and Dr Vincent Moreau, investigating the latest findings in the areas of photonics and of nanotechnology, the project Eclat moved into the area of diffractive optics, thus giving it a revolutionary air which was to guarantee its success. Professor Pierre Maquet, Head of research at FNRS and CHU/CR Cyclotron was to lead the research that followed into « the effect of light on the function of different regions of the brain by PetScan ».

The goal was to develop a unit that was more ergonomic and more effective than existing systems, to improve compliance and comfort for the patient.

This eventually gave birth to the luminette®.
